Bangkok (VNA) – Proওlonged rains from Typhoon Wipha have caused flooding in several northern provinces of Thailand, according to ꦿthe Thai Meteorological Department.
The storm entered northern Thailand from Laos and was downgraded to a low pressure system at 10:00 am on July 23. It first brought heavy rains to Nan province that would continue into July 24, moving westwards to Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, and Tak provinces.
Earlier, overnight downpours led to widespread flooding in Chiang Rai, Nan, and Phayao provinces on July 23. In Chiang Rai’s Thoeng district, floodwaters inundated a police station, a school, a courthouse, and a hospital. Thoeng Hospital evacuated patients with mild symptoms and is now only receiving emergency cases.
In Nan, rainfall measured between 150–200mm caused local rivers to overflow in Bo Kluea, Chiang Klang, Muang, and Pua districts, prompting temporary school closures.
Flooding was also reported in Chiang Kham, Dok Kham Tai, and Muang districts of Phayao province./.
