ASEAN’s founding anniversary marked in Israel

Tel Aviv (VNA) - The Philippine Embassy in Israel held a ceremony in Tel Aviv on August 7 to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8, 1967 – 2025).

The event was attended by ambassadors and staff of the embassies of ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Myanmar, representatives from several other countries in Israel, as well as officials from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Israel Ly Duc Trung, who is head of the group of Asia-Pacific diplomatic missions in Israel, recalled key milestones in ASEAN’s 58-year history.

Trung emphasised ASEAN’s central role in regional mechanisms such as the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the East Asia Summit (EAS), highlighting its significant contribution to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia.

Gil Haskel, head of the Agency for International Development Cooperation under the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the important role of ASEAN in today’s world.

He reviewed the development of relations between Israel and ASEAN as well as its member countries💜 and expressed his hope for future cooperation./.
