Son La (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long visited Son La on August 3 to assess damage and recoveryꦡ efforts🎃 following severe floods and landslides that struck the northern mountainous province.

A second deluge from July 31 to August 1, coupled with surging Ma river levels, driven by upstream downpours in Dien Bien province and water discharges from Muong Luan 1+2 and Song Ma 3 hydropower plants, triggered further flooding and landslides across 12 riverside communes.
The disasters left five dead, one missing, and four injured, with all injured now in stable condition, officials said.
Long urged the provincial authorities to prioritise aid for the victims’ families, focusing on restoring livelihoods and ensuring stable resettlement.
He also called for stronger guidance at the commune and ward levels to track weather patterns and adopt proactive measures to curb future losses.
On the occasion, he presented 96 relief packages to households in Chieng So and Huoi Mot communes.
The Military Region 2 Command donated two tonnes of dried food to victims, while the provincial Party Committee, People’s Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee also delivered aid to affected villages./.
On the afternoon of August 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Dien Bien province to inspect and direct efforts to overcome the aftermath of floods, flash floods, and landslides. The Prime Minister met with and offered words of encouragement to residents in severely affected areas, and praised the efforts of the police, military, and local militia in rescue operations and in helping people stabilise their lives.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested concerted efforts to overcome consequences of floods and landslides, and urged organisations to quickly assist local people in Dien Bien, Son La and Nghe An provinces.
Deputy PM Tran Hong Ha urged local authorities and rescue forces to swiftly carry out search and rescue operations in isolated areas, ensuring the fastest possible access to remote villages where residents are facing shortages of food, clean water, and communication.
