Malaysia provides updates on Cambodia - Thailand General Border Committee's meeting

Hanoi (VNA) - Malaysia is ready to send a monitoring team to the border area bet🔥ween Thailand and Cambo🌊dia if it receives an official request from both countries, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on August 5.
Speaking before the Malaysian Parliament, PM Ibrahim said the situation along the border remains under control, although some tension-inducing elements still persist.
As part of efforts to seek solutions to issues along the Thailand–Cambodia border, the two countries convened the first meeting of the Secretariat of the General Border Committee (GBC) under the chair of Malaysia on August 4, focusing on the ongoing ceasefire process at the border.
Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces Gen. Mohd Nizam Jaffar said the same day that the discussions were progressing positively, with both sides expressing strong commitment to finding a peaceful solution to the border conflict.
Malaysia’s current role is to support dialogue and act as a mediator ahead of the GBC ministerial-level meeting scheduled for August 7 in Malaysia./.
The forum, scheduled to take place from August 19 to 21, will serve as a platform to push for regional cooperation in building fairer and more inclusive legal systems, Minister of Law and Institutional Reform Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said at an ceremony to introduce the event on August 4.
While Malaysia offered significant trade and investment commitments, it did not compromise on national interests, but maintained equity requirements in strategic sectors and rejected the full liberalisation of sensitive industries, its Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry said.
