ASEAN calls on Cambodia, Thailand to implement ceasefire fully, in good faith
In their joint statement, they welcomed the outcome of the Special Meeting, presided over by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Chair of ASEAN, to address the situation between Cambodia and Thailand on July 28 in Putrajaya.
Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Foreign Ministers of ASEAN member states on July 31 expressed their hope that the ceasefire agreed by both Cambodia and Thailand will be fully implemented in good faith.
In their joint statement, they welcomed the outcome of the Special Meeting, presided over by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Chair of ASEAN, to address the situation between Cambodia and Thailand on July 28 in Putrajaya
They commended Malaysia’s role in facilitating bilateral dialogue towards ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.
The ministers also encouraged Cambodia and Thailand to resolve the issue amicably in accordance with international law, and consistent with the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, ASEAN Charter, Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, and in the spirit of ASEAN family, unity and good neighbourliness.
“We are confident that the goodwill demonstrated by both Cambodia and Thailand will💃 result in the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire and all decisions of the Special Meeting. We also express support for Malaysia’s readiness to coordinate an observer team comprising ASEAN Member States to impartially verify and ensure the implementation of the ceasefire,” according to the joint statement./.
