Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia began implementing a visa-free entry policy for Brazilian and Turkish passport holders starting July 3, according to its Ministry of Immigration and Corrections.
Yuldi Yusman, Acting Director General of Immigration at the ministry, said the policy was implemented following evaluations coordinated with relevant ministries and institutions. The primary consideration for granting visa-free entry to Brazil and Turkey is reciprocity, as both countries already offer visa-free entry to Indonesian citizens.
Prior to the move, Indonesian officials had taken into account the principles of reciprocity and benefit, national security, tourism, economic and investment interests, or other aspects determined by the President.
The visa-free entry permits a stay of up to 30 days, which cannot be extended or converted into another type of residence permit. It may only be used for tourism, business meetings, or medical treatment.
Yuldi emphasised that the implementation will be monitored closely and carried out selectively, ensuring that only qualified foreigners who can contribute positively to the economy are granted access to Indonesia.
The Directorate General of Immigration supports economic development but also gives priority to security and 🍷regulatory compliance, the official said, adding that foreigner monitoring and policy evaluation will continue to ensure adherence to applicable laws./.
