Brazilian newspapers highlight Vietnamese PM’s trip to Rio de Janeiro

Buenos Aires (VNA) – Brazilian newspapers have given wide coverage of Vietnamese Prim🌳e Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Rio de Janeiro du🎃ring his visit to the South American nation to attend the expanded BRICS summit.
According to the Brazilian government-run Planalto news site, during their talks on July 5 (local time), PM Chinh and President Lula da Silva celebrated the excellent status of the bilateral relations as well as the progress made since the latter’s state visit to Hanoi last April.
The report noted that both leaders welcomed the first Brazilian shipment of beef to Vietnam and Vietnam’s inaugural export of tilapia to Brazil. PM Chinh highlighted the importance of Brazilian investments in Vietnam, particularly in the area of animal protein-originated food processing.
The two leaders also underscored the potential for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, defence, sports, mining, biofuels, and environment. President Lula da Silva reaffirmed the desire of Brazil in its capacity as Chair of MERCOSUR to launch negotiations for a free trade agreement with Vietnam.

Both sides emphasised the importance of integration and complementarity between the two economies, and committed to promptly sending business delegations to expand bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
The meeting also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
PM Chinh wished Brazil success in hosting COP30 and confirmed Vietnam’s participation in the event in Belém, Pará, in November.

Delegates said that room for economic cooperation between the two countries is still very large and not commensurate with the potential as well as the political and diplomatic relations, especially after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024.
PM Chinh affirmed that the two countries have great potential to develop agricultural cooperation on the basis of having a large market, complementary strengths and the prospect of being soon connected by free trade agreements.
PM Chinh suggested Brazil and Vasco da Gama increase cooperation activities and support Vietnam in developing football, such as training and educating players, especially improving players' physical strength and skills, improving management capacity, developing brands, mobilising and managing resources, organising competitions, as well as continuing to "export" Brazilian players to Vietnam and Vietnamese players to Brazil.
