- Vietnam has attached much importance to its Strategic Partnership with Italy and wants to deepen the bilateral relations in a substantive and effective manner across all areas, including cooperation between its localities and Lombardy region, State Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan has said.At a meeting with President of the Lombardy Regional Government Attilio Fontana on July 1 as part of her working trip to the European country, Xuan highlighted the potential for enhancing collaboration in the domains of trade – investment and climate change response. - Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien and Italian Undersecretary of State for Defence Matteo Perego di Cremnago co-chaired the 5th Vietnam – Italy Defence Policy Dialogue in Hanoi on July 2.
Chien affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, and multilateralisation and diversification of external relations. The country is also steadfast in its “four no’s” defence policy - no joining military alliances, no siding with one country against another, no allowing another country to build its military bases or use Vietnamese territory to oppose the other, and no using or threatening to use force in international relations. - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised that the initiative to share the holy relics of the Buddha with Vietnam has sparked a profound cultural and spiritual phenomenon, drawing more than 15 million pilgrims to nine different sites across the Southeast Asian nation.
According to the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent in New Delhi, during the 123rd edition of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi said “Can you imagine that in Vietnam – a country of around 100 million people, over 15 million have paid homage to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha? - The special task forces of the Vietnamese and Lao governments held a ceremony to inaugurate and officially hand over the Vietnam-Laos combat alliance monument in the southern Lao province of Champasak on July 1.The project to renovate, upgrade, and expand the monument site was a gift from the Vietnamese task force to its Lao counterpart, with a total value of 54 billion VND (2.06 million USD).
