Work starts on bridge at Lao Bao-Densavan border gate
Construction of Xa Ot bridge at Lao Bao-Densavan international border gate between Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri and Savannakhet province of Laos kicked off on August 11.

The event forms part of activities marking the55th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties (Sept. 5) and 40years of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July18).
The bridge has a total investment of 32.9billion VND (around 1.45 million USD), funded by the Vietnamese Government.
Quang Tri and Savannakhet provinces share aborderline of 126 kilometres, with the Lao Bao-Densavan border gate connectingwith the East-West Economic Corridor.
Once completed, the new bridge is expected tomeet the growing trade and travel demand between the two provinces and Vietnamand Laos in general, thus completing the border gate traffic infrastructure andcontributing to local socio-economic development and national defence-security.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, ViceChairman of Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Quan Chinh saidthe work not only serves trade and travel purposes but also fosters thesolidarity between the Parties and people of the two nations.
He urged the authorities of Sepon district(Savannakhet) and Huong Hoa district to accelerate land clearance to facilitateprogress of the project.-VNA
Necessary infrastructure has been basically completed for the launching of the “one-stop-shop” customs model at Lao Bao border gate in the central province of Quang Tri, slated for January 1, 2015.
