Vietnamese PM arrives in Rio de Janeiro for expanded BRICS summit, bilateral activities in Brazil
PM Pham Minh Chinh will have bilateral meetings with leaders of the participating countries and organisations, thereby affirming Vietnam's role, wish, and responsible contributions to this multilateral mechanism while further deepening Vietnam’s cooperation with BRICS members and international organisations.

Rio de Janeiro (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse, and the delegation of Vietnam set foot at Galeao Airport in Rio de Janeiro city on early July 5 morning (local time), starting his participation in the expanded BRICS Summit and bilateral activities in Brazil.
The Vietnamese leader and delegation was welcomed at the airport by Laudemar G. de Aguiar Neto – Secretary for Trade Promotion, Science, Technology, Innovation and Culture of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi, and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy.
Themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for more Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”, the BRICS Summit 2025 is an important multilateral event gathering about 20 leaders of countries, the UN Secretary-General, and leaders of many international organisations.
Representing Vietnam at the BRICS Summit 2025 as a partner country – the 10th partner country of BRICS, PM Chinh is scheduled to attend and speak at the summit's high-level sessions on topics such as strengthening multilateralism, economic and financial issues, artificial intelligence, environment, climate change, global health.
On this occasion, he will have bilateral meetings with leaders of the participating countries and organisations, thereby affirming Vietnam's role, wish, and responsible contributions to this multilateral mechanism while further deepening Vietnam’s cooperation with BRICS members and international organisations.

This is also the third time in three consecutive years that PM Chinh has come to Brazil. Aside from the expanded BRICS Summit, he will also engage in bilateral activities in Brazil, aiming to promote multifaceted cooperation, especially in economic affairs.
Brazil is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America while Vietnam is also an important partner of Brazil in Southeast Asia. Trade between the two countries is increasing sharply, approximating 8 billion USD in 2024. They are striving to raise the turnover to 10 billion USD in 2025 and 15 billion USD by 2030.
During the trip, PM Chinh is set to meet with Brazilian President Lula da Silva, visit local cultural and sports faciliti🦩es, attend a business seminar, and work with major Brazilian corporations. The activities are expected to help strengthen political commitment and trust, thus developing Vietnam – Brazil relations comprehensively, deeply and sustainably and bringing practical benefits to the peoples of both countries./.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse will lead a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam to attend the expanded BRICS summit and engage in bilateral activities in Brazil from July 4 – 8. Vietnam and Brazil officially established diplomatic relations on May 8, 1989. Over 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Vietnam-Brazil relations have been continuously strengthened and developed.
Vietnam’s participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro at the inviation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva highlights the country's growing global role and sets the stage for deeper future cooperation, stated Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi ahead of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s trip to Brazil for the summit and bilateral activities from July 4-8.
Becoming a partner country of BRICS is a step that fully aligns with the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, and diversification of international relations that Vietnam has steadfastly pursued for nearly four decades.
PM Chinh affirmed that the two countries have great potential to develop agricultural cooperation on the basis of having a large market, complementary strengths and the prospect of being soon connected by free trade agreements.
PM Chinh suggested Brazil and Vasco da Gama increase cooperation activities and support Vietnam in developing football, such as training and educating players, especially improving players' physical strength and skills, improving management capacity, developing brands, mobilising and managing resources, organising competitions, as well as continuing to "export" Brazilian players to Vietnam and Vietnamese players to Brazil.
PM Chinh asserted Vietnam's strong commitment and active contributions to the common efforts to promote peace, cooperation and development, promoting the role of Southern countries in global governance institutions, at the same time, demonstrating Vietnam's support and contributions to the success of BRICS during Brazil's presidency.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed deep appreciation for the affection the Brazilian people and nation have extended to President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam. The leader noted his belief that, building on the strong ties between Vietnam and Brazil, the present and future generations of both countries will continue to carry forward the values and legacy left by President Ho Chi Minh and previous generations.
The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence supports deeper cooperation between the two militaries, Minister Gen. Phan Van Giang affirmed, expressing his hope that they will further strengthen effective collaboration, thus contributing to each country's national defence and the Vietnam – Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the time ahead.
The Vietnamese Party and State leaders reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently regards the US as one of its strategically important partners, and welcomed the US support for a “strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam.”
