Hanoi (VNA) - Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen ChiVinh on October 9 received Assistant Secretary of Defence forIndo-Pacific Security Affairs in the US Government Randall Schriver, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
During the reception, Vinh stressed that the defence cooperation between Vietnamand the US has witnessed positive developments in various fields like exchangeof delegations at all levels, war consequence settlement, training cooperationand sharing of experience in UN peacekeeping.
As one of the typical examples for the flourishing defence cooperation, the twosides have kicked off a project on dioxin contaminationremediation at BienHoa airport in the southern province of Dong Nai after the success of a similar project at Da Nang airportin the central region, he said.
The two sides also signed an agreement to implement the US-funded project tosupport people with disabilities in seven Vietnamese localities which were severelyaffected by Agent Orange/dioxin, he added.
For his part, Schriver conveyed US Secretary of DefenseMark Esper’s wish to visit Vietnam as soon as possible.
Through the visit, the two countries will offer many specific cooperationactivities and programmes to deepen bilateral defence cooperation in a practical and effective manner, inaccordance with the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, he said./.
