Vietnam objects to China’s vegetable cultivation in Hoang Sa archipelago

Hanoi (VNA) –Vice Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Doan Khac Viet on May 28 repeated thatall activities without Vietnam’s permission in the Hoang Sa (Paracel) andTruong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos are valueless.
He made the remarksat the ministry’s regular press conference, during which he replied toreporters’ questions about China’s recent announcement of using new technology invegetable cultivation on Phu Lam Island of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago.
The Vice Spokesmannoted Vietnam has repeatedly asserted that it has sufficient historicalevidence and legal basis testifying to its indisputable sovereignty over HoangSa and Truong Sa, which is in conformity with international law.
All activities withoutVietnam’s permission in these archipelagos are valueless, Viet emphasised.
Regarding China’s illegalsand mining in the East Sea, he once again affirmed that Vietnam ownssufficient historical evidence and legal basis testifying to its indisputablesovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, as well as its exclusive economic zoneand continental shelf in the East Sea.
Any parties’activities in these two archipelagoes and the areas over which Vietnam hassovereign rights and jurisdiction in the East Sea are violations of the country’ssovereignty and sovereign rights, as well as international law, the ViceSpokesman added./.
Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang has said Vietnam rejects China’s unilateral decision on fishing ban in the East Sea from May 1 to August 16.
In late 2019 and early 2020 China announced its “Four-Sha” sovereignty claims over the East Sea in two diplomatic notes sent to the UN Secretary-General, with the aim of replacing the so-called “nine-dash line” that had been previously rejected by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).
