Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam stormed to a 5-0 win over Singapore in their first match of Group B of the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers on August 6 in Hanoi.

The home side went on the offensive from the opening whistle with Lamasan Chantale dropping an easy catch in the third minute, with the Singapore custodian spared blushes after Luu Hoang Van scuffed her shot.

Van was more effective in the 15th minute, her mazy run causing havoc in the Singapore box with Nguyen Vinh Thuc Nghi taking advantage to side foot home the opener.

Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh missed her opportunity to expand the lead after her effort from the indirect free-kick was blocked by a line of Singapore players on the goal line.

Coach Masahiko Okiyama asked his Vietnamese side to step up a gear after the break, and it took only three minutes to double their lead thanks to an individual effort from Y Za Luong, who finished crisply into the bottom corner.

Vietnam were now fully in their stride, adding the third in the 50th minute after Van produced another storming run before setting up Nguyen Ngo Thao Nguyen for a simple finish.

Despite their effort, Singapore still conceded further goals late on with Nguyen Thi Thuong’s mishit cross in the 86th minute looping over Chantale before Ca Thi Phuong slammed home from close range two minutes later to seal an emphatic win.

In the other match of the group, Hong Kong-China beat Kyrgyz Republic 2-1.

Hong Kong's Wei Lan thumped the ball home with a header seven minutes into the restart.

Alina Gaparova took control of the ball and drilled a low shot to have an equaliser in the 68th minute.

Substitute Wong Tsz Kiu threaded the ball through for Anke Leung, who raced clear beyond Kyrgyz Republic's last defender to slot home the winner.

The two victors will meet on August 8 where another three points may well confirm an early ticket ෴to the finals./.

Indi💃an writer captivated by Vietnam’s Cham culture

Taking a journey to the Cham Museum — the modest building in Phan Rang –Thap Cham, Indian writer Ankita Mahabir said that the museum might not boast size but it brims with pride for the local community, featuring carefully preserved sandstone sculptures, portraits, and rare artifacts.

For years, the Vietnamese community in many countries rarely had the chance to experience Vietnam’s traditional arts and culture actitivies organized by the Vietnam government, except the annual event “Vietnam Day Abroad” that has been organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010. But the year 2024 marked a turning point.

In the context of international integration and globalisation, culture and art education plays a vital role in promoting the all-round development of Vietnam's young generation.
