Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue hasdecided to provide 3.5 billion VND (150,000 USD) to assist insurance premiumsfor owners of offshore fishing vessels following the Government’s Decree No.67on several fishery development policies.
The money benefits 65 ships, mainly in Phu Loc and Phu Vangdistricts, and is used to buy insurance for ship hulls, equipment and fishingtools.
Over the past time, fishery development policies of DecreeNo.67 have proved effective. To date, 40 ship owners have received assistanceto rebuild their ships with a total capital of over 280 billion VND (12 millionUSD). Of the total, there are four steel-coated vessels with a capacity of over829CV, and the remaining are wooden ships which have capacities of 400-800CV.
According to the province’s sustainable agriculturaldevelopment plan from now until 2020, the locality strives for the output ofseafood caught in offshore fishing exceeding 70 percent of the total outputcaught at sea.
Along with disseminations on the decree, the provincialDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development will make proposals to theprovincial People’s Committee to allocate the assistance appropriately to betterdevelop the fishery sector, with the priority given to infrastructure projectsthat serve offshore fishing, and modern shipbuilding projects.-VNA
