Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-chahas said all nations should worktogether to maintain stability in a sustainable way and strengthen stability inthe Indo-Pacific region by adhering to international law, developing mutualtrust and promoting closer cooperation.
Prayut madethe statement while presiding over the opening of the annual Chiefs of DefenceConference 2019 (CHOD 2019) co-hosted by the US and Thai armies in Bangkok onAugust 27.
He said ASEAN has become an important strategic platform forcommerce and security, recognises the importance of the Indo-Pacific Region,and the "ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific" will pave the way forstrengthening ties and cooperation, while supporting regional leaders to worktogether in four areas, including maritime cooperation, connectivity, the 2030United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and economiccollaboration.
Thailand supports dialogue and negotiations on theinternational stage as well as mechanisms to promote coordination betweennations, he said.
In addition to stability, the PM said sustainabilitymust be established in other areas in accordance with the concept of the "Sustainabilityof Things". All countries have to consider the concept when makingdecisions. The new generation should also adopt the concept so that they areunaffected by changes in the global environment over the long run.-VNA
