Singapore (VNA) – Southeast Asia’s internet economy is estimatedto reach 50 billion USD in 2017, according to a report released by Temasek ofSingapore and Google of the US on December 12.
“The e-Conomy SEA Spotlight 2017” report says the regional internet economy ison course to exceed 200 billion USD by 2025, or 6 percent of Southeast Asia’s projectedGDP by then, compared to 2 percent in 2017 and 1.3 percent in 2015.
All sectors of the region’s internet economy have experienced solid growth in2017, the report states. Online travel reached 26.6 billion USD buoyed byairline and hotel online bookings, online media touched 6.9 billion USD ande-commerce and ride hailing growth surpassed 40 percent in the year.
The region’s internet user base continued to grow rapidly in 2017, with monthlyactive internet users set to reach 330 million by the end of the year.-VNA
Research recently conducted by Oxford Economics says that the mobile internet sector may contribute 5.1 billion USD to Vietnam from 2015 to 2020, it was revealed at a workshop on August 2.
Over 20 years of development, Vietnam’s internet has made sustainable contributions to society and Government policies have resulted in 60 percent of the population using the web.
