Singapore (VNA) – Singaporeanpolice will tighten security measures to pဣrepare for the summit between USPresident Donald Trump൩ and leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(DPRK) Kim Jong Un, which is scheduled to take place on June 12.
In a press release issued on June 6, theSingaporean police said “special event areas” will be set up from June 10-14under the Public Order Act at Capella hotel on the resort island of Sentosa –where the summit will be held, and Shangri-La hotel – where Trump will possiblystay.
Members of the public can expect heightenedsecurity measures, including screenings of people and vehicles, at the summit venuesand areas around them, the police said.
Other security measures include theprohibition of unmanned aerial vehicles such as drones within the EnhancedSecurity Special Event Areas, and restrictions on vessel movements.
The announcement comes on the back of a WhiteHouse confirmation that the summit will be held at the Capella hotel on Sentosaisland.
This followed weeks of speculation surroundingthe venue of the summit, as police declared the areas around the Shangri-La andCapella hotels as “special event areas.”
Singapore’s armed forces were ordered to makepreparedness in case of emergency with the assistance of Apache helicopters andF-16 fighter jets.
Singapore’s airspace will be restricted during the planned US-DPRK summit,according to a notice to airmen posted by aviation authorities on June 6.
The notice, published on the websites of the International CivilAviation Organization ꧃(ICAO) and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),said airspace over Singapore will be temporarily restricted for parts of June11, 12 and 13.
