Ho Chi Minh City will be a new destination for Russian touriststraveling on chartered planes, following Khanh Hoa province and KienGiang’s Phu Quoc district, the Saigon Times Daily reported.
HoangThi Phong Thu, Chairwoman of Anh Duong Tourism Company, said hercompany and its partner, Pegas Touristik, have surveyed many hotels andresorts in HCM City, Long Hai, Vung Tau, and Binh Thuan for servingRussians who will arrive here on chartered flights from December.
Russiantourists traveling to Vietnam normally stay in HCM City for a shortwhile before leaving for beaches in coastal provinces for prolongedconvalescences. However, tourists on chartered flights will likely stayin the city for at least three days, said Thu, whose company is the keypartner in organising chartered flights transporting Russians toVietnam.
Anh Duong Company has organized numerous charteredflights to transport customers from Russia to Vietnam. Now is the lowseason, and there are two chartered flights each day on average.
HCMCity’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism in cooperation withtravel agents in provinces that have tourism potential, such as KhanhHoa and Binh Thuan, will participate in a travel fair in Russia topromote Vietnam’s tourism in September 2014.
According to Thu,the representatives of Airports Corporation of Vietnam, Tan Son NhatInternational Airport, and her company have worked with Norwind Airlinesand Ikar Airlines to introduce 22 airports in Vietnam for Russia’sflights.
Statistics from the Vietnam National Administration ofTourism show the number of Russian tourists to Vietnam reached nearly194,000 in this year’s first half, up 26 percent compared to the sameperiod of last year.
Although facing difficulties and challenges,Vietnam’s tourism sector has maintained a stable growth, raking in 200trillion VND (9.5 billion USD) from welcoming 7.57 million foreignvisitors and 32.5 million local holiday-makers in 2013.
In thefirst six months of this year, the sector served 4.28 millionforeigners, up 21 percent, and 23.4 million local tourists, earning 125trillion VND (5.87 billion VND).
