The Repatriation Ceremony of remains of US servicemen who died duringthe war in Vietnam was held at Da Nang International Airporton June 22, 2012.
Attending the ceremony, on the Vietnamese side were Representatives fromVietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and, on the USside, Consul General of the US in Ho Chi Minh City, Le Thanh An; DefenceAttache at the US Embassy in Hanoi, Patrick Reardon and theRepresentatives from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and theUS MIA Office in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese side’sRepresentative handed over to the U.S. side’s three boxes of remainswhich were recovered during the 107 th Joint Field Activities from Mayto June this year.
Those remains had been jointly reviewed andconcluded by Vietnam and US forensic specialists that they might beassociated with the U.S. servicemen missing during the war in Vietnamand recommended to bring to Hawaii , United States , for furtherreview. The search for the remains of US servicemen missing during thewar in Vietnam is humanitarian cooperation between the VietnamGovernment and the US Government. This is the 123rd hand-over ofAmerican missing servicemen’s remains since 1973.
Addressing theRepatriation Ceremony, the US Government Representative expressed thanksand appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy, good-will andthe increasingly efficient cooperation of the Vietnamese Government andpeople./.
