HCM City (VNA) - Printing businesses in Vietnam should begin using more environmentally friendlyequipment, experts said at a recent conference in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ngo Anh Tuan, chairman of the Printing Association of HCM City, saidthat the kind of printing methods being used by businesses are the primary cause of pollution.
For the printing industry to develop sustainably and in anenvironmentally friendly way, businesses should invest in modern equipment andpay more attention to workers' welfare, he said.
Nguyen Chau Phong, a representative of Total Print Co. Ltd, said thatenvironmentally friendly technologies that use fewer toxic substances couldreduce the volume of water and electricity needed for printing.
Pham Tuan Vu, deputy head of the Department of Publishing, Printing andDistribution of the Ministry of Information and Communications, said the city'sprinting output accounted for around 65 percent of the country's, and that theannual revenue from printing was around 2 billion USD.
The printing industry in the city and the country has seengood growth of around 15-17 percent this year compared to the previous year.
Vu said the industry should decrease the amount of alcoholinvolved in offset printing while still keeping productivity and productquality.
