Dien Bien has a high poverty rate, so one of the province's important political tasks is to reduce the rate in the coming time, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at a working session with the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee on May 18.

The President said that theprovince has a particularly important strategic position in terms of economy,society, national defence and security, ecological environment and foreign affairs, adding that it should take advantage of historical and cultural strengths of many local ethnic groups to boost socio-economic development.
Dien Bien is a mountainous province with ethnic minorities accounting for over80 percent of its population and its economy relies heavily on foresteconomic development.
The province's economy in the first quarter grew by 6.7 percent, reaching 2.7 trillion VND. However, the rate of poorhouseholds still makes up over 35 percent.
While praising the province’s effort in implementing socio-economic and defencetasks, the President asked the provincial administration to study and propose alinkage mechanism, aiming to create a corridor to foster socio-economic development in border provinces, including Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai,Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lang Son and Quang Ninh.
He said Dien Bien should focus resources on economic development based onthree economic pillars, including tourism, smart agriculture and processingindustry associated with local raw material areas.
Regarding tourism development, it is necessary to attract investment to anumber of clusters and industries in which the province has potential andadvantages as well as linking historical sites in the locality.
As for the agriculture sector, the province needs to develop smart agricultural models,exploit strengths from indigenous trees, promote the development ofmacadamia trees associated with the processing industry, and create linkagechains in agriculture.
The President also asked the province to promote digita♏l transformation inpublic services, encourage e-commerce and digital e♕conomy activities./.
The Intracom Group and French Euro Blue Power Group have worked with leaders of Dien Bien province on field surveys and investment research for hydropower storage projects.
The Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, 1954 is the result of many factors, with the decisive one being the Party’s comprehensive resistance policy that covers all aspects of military, politics, economy, trade, culture, education and diplomacy, creating a synergy strength to defeat the enemy and make a victory that “resounded throughout the five continents and was world-shaking”.
