Preparations for Int’l Defence Expo 2024 in full swing

Hanoi (VNA) - Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien on November 11 led a Ministry of National Defence delegation to inspect on-site preparations for the 2024 Viet🍌nam International Defence Expo at Gia Lam Airport in Hanoi.
Chien highly appreciated the determination and efforts of the organising committee, the General Department of Defence Industry, and other agencies and units in the implementation of preparations for the exhibition.
He requested that the relevant agencies and units continue to stay determined and make efforts to complete all preparations for the expo.
The expo, scheduled for December 19 - 22 at Gia Lam Airport, carries the theme "Peace, Friendship, Cooperation for Mutual Development". It coincides with the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) and the 35th anniversary of the All People's National Defence Festival.
The event will offer a multifaceted experience for attendees. They can delve into the VPA's rich tradition, explore technological advancements and digital transformation efforts in the Vietnamese army, and learn about economic-defence products. The expo will also feature business exchanges, military seminars, and cultural activities.
So far, 140 companies and units from 27 countries have confirmed their participation in the expo, according to the organising committee./.
In preparation for the upcoming Vietnam International Defence Expo 2024, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) Sen. Lieut. Gen Phung Sy Tan chaired a conference in Hanoi on May 28 to approve a plan for the economic-defence booths.
More than 40 companies and agencies from 19 foreign countries and territories worldwide have confirmed their participation in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2024, to be held in December this year, heard a conference held by the Ministry of Defence in Hanoi on April 20.
As many as 140 international delegations from 50 countries worldwide will be invited to the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2024, which is scheduled to take place at the Gia Lam Airport in Hanoi from December 19-22.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed enhancing economic and trade cooperation, including the development of railway connectivity between Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan, which will also strengthen links with Central Asian nations.
The new law abolishes the death penalty for eight criminal offenses: the crime aimed at overthrowing the people’s government; the crime of sabotaging state infrastructure and technical facilities; the crime of producing and trading counterfeit medicines for treatment and prevention; the crime of destroying peace and causing aggressive war; the crime of espionage; that of illegally transporting narcotics; embezzlement; and bribe taking.

Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu stressed the need to enhance the performance of institutions established under the Convention, thereby reinforcing the role and vitality of UNCLOS, referred to as the “Constitution for the Oceans,” in maintaining maritime order, conserving and sustainably utilising marine resources, and contributing to global peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Regarding PM Chinh’s attendance at the WEF’s meeting in China for the third year in a row and Vietnam’s contributions to the forum, Ma said the Vietnamese leader has shared practical experiences and proposals on green economy aimed at facilitating trade and attracting foreign investment within the framework of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP); and offering fresh ideas for shaping strategies in economics, trade, and sustainable development.
In 2019, the Vietnamese association in PEI was established as a non-governmental organisation to support integration and development within the community. It has since organised a range of activities to maintain cultural identity, foster community cohesion, and strengthen ties with the homeland, while also contributing to the development of the host society.
Vietnam’s participation at the meeting underscores the country’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and proactive international integration in a broad, deep, and effective manner. It also conveys Vietnam’s ambition and determination to enter a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.
The amended law will take effect on July 1, 2025, except for provisions on civil servant evaluation in Section 3, Chapter IV, which will be implemented from January 1, 2026.
