HCM City (VNA) – An exhibition featuringphotos on war victims in Japan and Vietnam opened in Ho Chi Minh City onNovember 21.
On display are nearly 50 colour and black-and-white photos and excerpts ofarticles, reflecting great losses and long-lasting consequences suffered by victimsof the wars in Vietnam and Japan in the past.
The works also clearly show evidence of crime that the wars caused to innocent peoplein the two countries.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice President of the Vietnam Peace CommitteeTon Nu Thi Ninh underlined the importance of peace for a sustainable future.
She called on people to speak up, play their role and act for peace inparticular, and in solving problems of humanity in general, saying that thepeople must join hands for a world without nuclear weapons.
According to the Vietnam Peace Committee, the atomic bombs that were dropped onJapan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki cities on August 6 and 9, 1945, killed 210,000people. Ten years later, the first WorldConference against Atomic andHydrogen Bombs was held.
Up to now, the movement of peace has constantly developedworldwide, bringing peace-loving people together with great efforts to fightnuclear weapons for a world without nuclear weapons and for peace to all thepeople.
Vietnam has been always consistent with its policy of opposing wars and nuclearweapons. The country was one of the first countries that supported and signed the global treaty banning nuclear weapons in2017.
The exhibition, jointly organised by the Vietnam Union of FriendshipOrganisations, the Vietnam Peace Committee, the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin, the Japan Council against Atomic andHydrogen Bombs (Gensuikyo) and the War Remnants Museum, will last until November 24./.
