Jakarta (VNA) – The ASEAN Secretariat held a press conference in Jakarta, Indonesia, on October 15 to announce the results of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos.
Highlighting the key outcomes of the events to the diplomatic corps in Jakarta and the media, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn said the summits, themed “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, featured 16 meetings during which member states discussed and reached consensus on major issues like cooperation in the areas of economy, security and politics as well environmental issues and sustainable development.
They concurred to foster economic development and improve the competitive edge of the member states, he said, highlighting parties committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region while enhancing collaboration in security and politics.
More than 90 documents were adopted at the summits, paving the way for the nations to agree on coordination and connectivity measures that helps ASEAN further develop towards a strong, innovative, flexible and people-centred bloc.
The ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 was handed over to Malaysia, he added.
