Myanmar sets up committees to promote peace process

Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar on May 31 formed a 10-member committee to wor🏅k on reformation of the Myanmar Peace Center (MPC) as ♌National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC), announced the President's Office.
The committee is chaired by U Kyaw Tint Swe, minister of the Office of State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, and its vice chairman is Lt-Gen Ye Aung, minister of the Border Affairs.
In accordance with the directive of Suu Kyi, the committee is set to form the NRPC which is to be based in Nay Pyi Taw and the former MPC in Yangon will play as a branch of the NRPC.
The committee is tasked to ensure the NRPC to undertake the coordination process for getting foreign aid and utilisation of state budget and donors' fund for the cause of the national reconciliation and peace.
The committee is also tasked to submit proposals to the state counselor to include those deemed as necessary and the NRPC is to run as an institution by regularly holding meetings and adopting decisions.
On the same day, Myanmar also formed a 16- member Preparatory Committee for holding the 21st Century Panglong Ethnic Conference to work for national reconciliation and domestic peace.
The committee was organised with Peace Negotiator Tin Myo Win as chairman and U Kyaw Tint Swe, Minister of the State Counselor's Office, as vice chairman.
The committee, into two separate sub-committees, is tasked to negotiate with those ceasefire signatory armed groups and non-signatory ones, and review the political framework for necessary amendment.-VNA
