Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese authorities have handed over to US representatives twosets of remains of US servicemen found by joint search teams during the 136thJoint Field Activities from July to September 2019.
The handover ceremonywas held at Da Nang International Airport with the participation of representativesfrom the Board of Directors of Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel(VNOSMP), US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Marie Damour and officials fromthe Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and the US MIA Office in Hanoi.
The remains hadbeen jointly examined by Vietnamese and US forensic specialists in Da Nang. Thespecialists concluded that they might be associated with US servicemen missingduring the war in Vietnam and recommended to bring them to Hawaii, the US, forfurther verification.
Speaking at the ceremony,US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Marie Damour spoke highly of the full andeffective cooperation of the Vietnamese Government and people in the search formissing US servicemen, pledging to continue supporting Vietnam to overcome warconsequences in the time to come.
The search forremains of US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam is a humanitarian activitybetween the Vietnamese and US Governments. This is the 151st hand-over ofremains of US missing servicemen since 1973./.
