Malaysian police on September 23 announced the arrest of eight suspects, including four Malaysians, over the Erawan shrine blast in Bangkok, Thailand last month. Deputy Police Chief Noor Rashid Ibrahim told reporters that the eight suspects were arrested in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur and the northern state of Kelantan, bordering Thailand, for their alleged involvement in human trafficking activities.
However, he said there is no concrete evidence that the suspects were directly involved in the blast. Malaysian police are working with their Thai counterparts for further investigation, he added.
On the same day, Thai media reported that National Deputy Police Chief Chakthip Chaijinda has flown to Kuala Lumpur to verify and directly interrogate a detained man who is suspected a yellow-shirted bomber in the blast. The explosion at the Erawan shrine on August 17 killed 20 people and injured more than 120 others.-VNA
