Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman 🎃of the People’s Committee of the northern mount♑ainous province of Lai Chau Do Ngoc An on August 16 urged relevant bodies to be prepared for potential rain and flooding from an upcoming tropical depression.
Localities in the province were asked to keep a close eye on the weather pattern and prepare well for the evacuation of residents in high-risk areas and other preventive and rescue measures.
Inspection of local dams, reservoirs and construction works is needed to ensure safety for residents and assets, particularly in the downstream areas.
Communication is urged to cover the weather progress constantly help residents better brace for the situation.
Meanwhile, the same day, northern Bac Giang and Nam Dinh provinces took prompt measures to address flood and rain consequences.
The Bac Giang provincial Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and search and rescue urged the Son Dong district to evacuate three households in the landslide-hit Huu San commune.
The Committee also sent a dispatch to relevant agencies to actively take measures against flash floods and storm.
During a conference reviewing the recent performance of natural disasters prevention and search and rescue during the year’s first storm, Vice Chairman of the Nam Dinh province People’s Committee Nguyen Phung Hoan urged localities in the province to develop scenarios to adapt to potential storms and floods.
Construction and upgrades of irrigation infrastructure facilities need to take into consideration impacts of storms and high tides.
The Vice Chairman also urged districts to provide support for affected farmers to re-grow rice in the damaged areas and conduct research on shifting from rice crops to aquatic farming.
According to the Nam Dinh provincial Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and search and rescue, the first storm of the year left eight injured and damaged over 50,500 hectares of rice and 8,200 hectare of other crops.
