Lao leaders appreciate Ho Chi Minh City-Vientiane cooperation

Vientiane (VNA) – A delegation of Ho Chi Minh City led by Nguyen VanNen, Secretary of the city’s Party Committee, paid courtesy visits to topleaders of Laos on May 26 during their working visit to the neighbouringcountry.
During the meetings, Party General Secretary and President ofLaos Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Phankham Viphavan, National AssemblyChairman Xaysomphone Phomvihane and President of the Lao Front for National Construction Central Committee Xinlavong Khoutphaythoun all spoke highly of the cooperation between theVietnamese southern hub and Lao capital Vientiane as well as other localitiesof Laos.
They affirmed that the Lao people are always grateful for HCM City’s support forand cooperation with not only Vientiane, Savannakhet and Champasak which havetwin relations with the city, but also other Lao localities.
The visit of the HCM City delegation will contribute todeepening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperationbetween the two countries, the Lao leaders said.
They expressed a wish that HCM City will continue to share its experience ineconomic development with Vientiane and other Lao localities.
The visiting HCM City official expressed his joy at the developmentof the Vietnam-Laos ties in all aspects despite the unforeseeable and complexregional and international situations as well as difficulties brought by theCOVID-19 pandemic.
He reported to the Lao leaders the outcomes of his talks earlier on the daywith the Secretary of the Party Committee of Vientiane, Anouphap Tounalom.The two cities will join hands to hold activities during the Vietnam-Laos,Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, and further promote their partnership in variousfields. They will also increase people-to-people exchanges and educate younggenerations on the history of the traditional special and great friendshipbetween the two Parties, States and peoples.
Earlier the same day, the HCM City delegation laid a wreathat the monument to Lao war heros and war martyrs in Vientiane and visited theVientiane-HCM City Friendship High School./.
The visit by National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to Laos from May 15-17 was a success, helping further foster the cooperative relations and mutual support between the two parliaments, and bolster the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive partnership between the two countries, according to Chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
