Jakarta (VNA) –The Indian Embassy in Indonesia on October 3 commemorated the 147th birth anniversary of Mahatma Ganhi a🐭nd International Day of Non-Violence (October 2).
The annual event was held to pay respect to Mahatma Gandhi, the national hero and great leader of India, who led the national struggle for independence of the Indians.
On the occasion, gifts including money, book and clothes were given to schools affected by natural disasters and students with disabilities in Indonesia.
At the function, Indian Ambassador Nengcha Lhouvum Mukhopadhaya reiterated Gandhi’ philosophy of non-violence and called for actions for a non-violence world, where only peace and development exist.
Ganhi’s philosophy has influenced non-violence movements over the world, including the American Civil Rights Movement.
In 2007, the UN declared October 2 as International Day of Non-Violence.-VNA
