Internet speeds up as four of five undersea cables repaired

Up to now, only the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) internet cablethat connects Vietnam with the rest of Asia is still experiencing errors. The APG, with 10,400 km of cable under the Pacific Ocean, is thecable with the largest bandwidth connecting to Vietnam. It provides a maximumbandwidth of 54 terabytes per second and opened in 2016. In late December 2022and mid-January this year, the cable had an problem with its connection to HongKong and another cable 151 km offshore. The two errors affected the entire line. The errors on APGroute are expected to be fixed in June. With the completed repair and restoration of normaloperation by four undersea cable routes - IA, SMW3, AAE-1 and AAG, the qualityof Vietnam's internet services has improved as there are more connection options, with better latency. Telecom operators will be moreflexible in navigating data traffic, ensuring service quality and enhancing theexperience for internet customers./.
The SMW3 cable, the last fully functional Internet cable of Vietnam, has encountered a problem on its S2.7 segment that connects with Singapore, an Internet service provider in the country said on February 21.
February's Speedtest Global Index (SGI) showed that Vietnam jumped up six places to 39th in fixed broadband speeds, despite recent disruptions to all five of its submarine internet cables suffering outages.
