ThanhHoa (VNA) - An international deepwater container port was put intooperation at Nghi Son International Port in the north central province of ThanhHoa on May 8.
Addressingthe event, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho appreciated CMA Group'sdecision to open a container port and selection of Nghi Son International Port forthe construction.
The route will create favourable conditions for import-export enterprises inThanh Hoa and neighbouring provinces, thus contributing to making Nghi SonEconomic Zone and economic zones in Thanh Hoa as well as other provinces in theregion more attractive to domestic and foreign investors.
To fully tap the potential for Nghi Son Port to become a strong deep-sea port, Thoproposed Nghi Son International Port company modernise its productionorganisation and freight forwarding, and provide high quality services for shipowners and import and export firms.
He asked for efforts to effectively organise logistics service to cut shippingand logistics costs for businesses.
The ministry will coordinate with provincial authorities in directing theimplementation of some key projects such as the North-South expressway - theNinh Binh - Thanh Hoa and Thanh Hoa - Bai Vot sections, the second phase of thenational highway 217 project, a coastal road route and investing in portprojects, Tho snoted.
Starting operation in October 2017, the Nghi Son International Port consists offour wharfs, nine multi-purpose shore cranes and modern equipment capable ofhandling 9 million tonnes of goods per year. It is fully capable of receivingbulk carriers, goods, liquid cargo ships and container ships.
Along with Nghi Son International Port, another container-dedicated port isbeing constructed in the locality with a container handling capacity of up to600,000 TEU/year.-VNA
The Nghi Son deep-water port in the central province of Thanh Hoa has recently welcomed a Panamanian vessel of 45,000 DWT. It is the second largest ship of its kind ever docked in the port.
Thanh Hoa province, which boasts the Nghi Son Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Complex Project, will organise a trade promotion conference on October 23-24 to introduce its socio-economic development strategy to 2020 with a vision towards 2030 as well as its incentives for foreign investors.
