Initiatives for boosted science, technology connections in ASEAN+3
Vietnam has presented initiatives to enhance the role of and contributions by science, technology and innovation (STI) to the development of the region that groups ASEAN and China, Japan and the RoK.

Vietnam has presented initiatives to enhance the role of and contributions by science, technology and innovation (STI) to the development of the region that groups ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ASEAN+3) at a recent meeting in Daejeon city, the Republic of Korea.
The initiatives, proposed at the ASEAN+3 Ministerial Meeting on STI, include building a connectivity network to promote innovation in the countries and setting up cooperation programmes to assist start-ups basing on innovation among the ASEAN+3 members.
The nations should also expand channels of cooperation and sharing information and science-technology knowledge among research institutes in ASEAN+3, especially in coping with global challenges such as climate change, new energy and diseases.
At the ASEAN+3 meeting, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Quoc Khanh also highlighted the significance of STI to the growth and competitiveness of each nation in the era of globalisation and international integration.
Outcomes and initiatives proposed at the event will be reflected at a meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology in Laos this November.
From October 19 – 21, the Vietnamese delegation also attended the second meeting of the ASEAN-RoK Joint Science and Technology Committee, a meeting of s💯cience ministers from member countries of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation💛 and Development (OECD), and the World Science and Technology Forum.-VNA
Science ministers from ASEAN, and the Republic of Korea (RoK), China and Japan, met in Daejeon, RoK on October 20 to discuss ways to form a network of cooperation in science and technology.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs gathered opinions to the building of an implementation plan for the goals of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.
The 10th ASEAN-China senior officials’ meeting on the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of the Parties in East Sea (DOC) took place in Chengdu, China from October 19-21.
Under the European Union (EU)’s global initiative on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (CoE), Vietnam has implemented numerous projects aimed at strengthening national capacity in detecting, preventing, and preparing for CBRN-related threats.

Since 2022, more than 500 Vietnamese startups have engaged in Google’s Startup Academy, Google for Startups Accelerator, and Google Startup Masterclass. Nearly 100 of these firms received support to develop and improve their products, benefiting more than 300,000 customers and creating over 300 new jobs through successful fundraising and team expansion amidst Vietnam’s competitive economy.
Over the past three decades, Binh Duong has cemented its status as one of Vietnam’s most dynamic industrial hubs, building a robust foundation in manufacturing, exports, and investment. The province now has 30 operational industrial parks spanning over 13,000 hectares, with an occupancy rate exceeding 90%.
The diplomat emphasised that Vietnam places the highest priority on the development of science, technology, and innovation, viewing them as critical drivers for the country’s advancement in the new development era.

The average speed of the national mobile broadband network remained stable, with download speeds reaching 76.86 Mbps and upload speeds reaching 26.98 Mbps.
