Quang Tri (VNA) - The Vietnam YouthFederation (VYF) Central Committee on April 29 launched the 2020 “I love my Fatherland”journey, which will feature a large number of activities for youngpeople between now and National Day (September 2).
The launch ceremony was held at the specialnational historical relic site of Hien Luong Bridge - Ben Hai River in thecentral province of Quang Tri, which was the temporary dividing line betweenthe northern and southern regions under the 1954 Geneva Accords. The ceremony alsocelebrated the 45th anniversary of the liberation of the South and NationalReunification Day (April 30).
Nguyen Anh Tuan, Standing Secretary of the HoChi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and Chairman of the VYFCentral Committee, said the 2020 journey will be organised in all VYF chaptersnationwide with the participation of VYF members and young domestic andoverseas Vietnamese.
It also aims to pay tribute to previous generationswho brought peace and independence to the country, educate the young on the country’sglorious history, and help them contribute to national development and defencevia practical activities, he noted.
Activities during the journey will be associatedwith relic sites of the resistance wars and those linked to late President HoChi Minh.
In Quang Tri, the programme features variousactivities such as flag raising ceremonies at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai relicsite and on Con Co Island, visiting the Road 9 and Truong Son national martyrs’cemeteries, and visiting some Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.
At the launching event, the VYF Central Committeepresented the tokens of 15,000 meals worth 225 million VND (9,600 USD) to 1,000people facing difficulties from the COVID-19 pandemic, granted scholarshipsworth 2 million VND (85 USD) each to 20 local ethnic minority students, andannounced support for ten orphaned students until they reach the age of 18.
