HCM City (VNA) – The HungarianConsulate General in Ho Chi Minh City recently celebrated Hungary’s nationalholiday (March 15), which commemorates the nations’ 1848 revolution and thefollowing War of Independence in 1848 – 1849.
Speaking at a ceremony on March 14, ViceChairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem expressed hisdelight at the growth of Vietnam – Hungary relations, stressing that the Vietnamesepeople always remember Hungaria’s support for their struggle for independence.
Official development assistance from theHungarian government has contributed to Vietnams’ progress inscience-technology and health care, while the joint education programmes havebeen effective, he said.
Liem noted ties between HCM City and Hungaryhave seen improvements in recent years via stronger cooperation in healthcapacity training, water management, wastewater treatment, cultural exchange,tourism and trade-investment promotion.
The official said he believes the ConsulateGeneral will devise more initiatives to enhance the countries’ friendship.
Hungarian Consul General Baloghdi Tibor saidthe seven-decade diplomatic relations are growing strongly thanks to high-levelvisits exchanged between the two countries’ leaders, engagements between theirlegislative bodies, and people-to-people exchange.
He said Vietnam and Hungary have boostedtheir ties in legislation and defence-security. They have also enhanced tradeand investment collaboration in oil, water management, health services andagriculture.
The diplomat said the Consulate General isproud to help connect HCM City with Hungarian localities.
Currently, HCM City is implementing healthcapacity training programmes with major Hungarian universities like Semmelweis,Pecs and the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest. The IndustrialUniversity of HCM City and Hungarian-based Thermo Wat company signed amemorandum of understanding on turning wastewater into electricity.
The southern city and Hungary signed anagreement to establish their cooperation in 2015. They are working on jointprojects in health, classical music, and water supply and drainagemanagement.-VNA
Ho Chi Minh City and Hungary should realise cooperative agreements through certain projects, especially in education, trade, investment, sports and tourism in order to fully tap their potential.
Vietnam and Hungary have been enjoying sound friendship and diplomatic ties. Bilateral relations have recorded positive development which creates a solid foundation to bolster growth in many fields.
There is still large room for the economic and trade ties between Vietnam and Hungary to grow, as bilateral trade stood at only 354.3 million USD in 2017.
Ho Chi Minh City stands ready to help Hungary gain broader access to ASEAN and Asian-Pacific markets while facilitating Hungarian investors’ long-term business in the city, according to a local leader.

At the working session, General Secretary Lam presented the Party Committee of the VFF and central mass organisations with the Politburo’s Decision No. 304-QD/TW, which outlines the new structure, functions and tasks of the VFF Central Committee, marking a significant step in improving its organisational effectiveness.
Describing the exhibition as a large-scaled, content-rich, and unprecedented event with high requirements and limited preparation time, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged all ministries, sectors, and localities to participate with the highest sense of responsibility, ensuring the exhibition is inclusive, objective, truthful, feasible, and impactful.
Vietnam’s attendance reaffirms its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and comprehensive, intensive, extensive and effective international integration.
Cheng stressed that this is third time PM Chinh has attended the meeting and he is among the few senior government officials participating in this year's event, which is considered as a rare and commendable gesture.
The fact that the Vietnamese PM has been invited to attend and speak at this important event for three consecutive years reflects the WEF as well as the international business community's recognition and high regard for Vietnam's position, role, and contributions to global and regional economic growth.
This new era marks a crucial phase in which the country must strive with determination to fulfil its strategic objectives, achieving breakthrough development at new levels of sophistication, quality, and global standing, laying the foundation for further growth. Era after era forms a continuous history of development, ascending steadily from one level to the next.
The resolution on such mechanisms aims to serve as a legal basis for opportunely dealing with difficulties and hindrances caused by legal regulations in important, priority, and urgent areas that require immediate settlement so as to unlock resources, facilitate economic development, and turn legislation into a competitive edge.
PM Pham Minh Chinh instructed chairpersons of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow the Ministry of Finance's guidelines on handling public finances and budgets, with a focus on preventing wastefulness, misconduct, or corruption.
Knapper reaffirmed the US's commitment to supporting a strong, independent, prosperous and resilient Vietnam, while respecting each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and political systems.
Vietnam is deeply concerned about the escalating and complex conflict in the Middle East, which poses a serious threat to the lives and safety of civilians, as well as to regional and global peace and stability.
