Greater efforts needed towards 1,200km of expressways in Mekong Delta: PM

Can Tho (VNA) – The Mekong Delta is expected to have about 1,200km of expressways, with some 600km to be completed within this tenure, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said during a field trip to the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway project on July 13.
This is his third fact-finding trip to expressway projects in the region, covering Can Tho city and 12 provinces.
The Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway stretches 188.2km, with sub-projects in An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang, and total investment amounting to 44.69 trillion VND (1.75 billion USD). Its construction began in June 2023, and the whole route is scheduled to be put into service in 2027.
The Government leader inspected the work in Thanh Tien commune, Vinh Thanh district, Can Tho city, and in Binh Thanh commune, Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province, where he got updates on site clearance, material supply, and obstacles to the subprojects. He asked engineers and workers to speed up the progress, and strive to ensure set targets.
On this occasion, Chinh had a meeting with representatives from ministries, agencies and contractors, during which he urged stronger determination, greater efforts and more drastic actions to meet the target of 1,200km of expressways, thus creating momentum for regional development.
He suggested major contractors to team up with their local peers to mobilise on-site personnel, equipment, materials and logistics, and stressed the need to prevent corruption and other negative phenomena during the construction.
Earlier the same day, the leader and his entourage paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh and heroic martyrs at the Can Tho city ♕martyrs’ cemetery./.
The North-South corridor expressway, running from Huu Nghi border gate to Ca Mau, is 2,063 km long as designed. As of May 2024, a total of 1,187 km have been put into operation, 861 km are under construction, and the remaining 15 km are under preparation for investment.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked for greater efforts from ministries, sectors, and localities to realise the goal of completing 3,000 km of expressways nationwide by December 31, 2025.

In 2019, the Vietnamese association in PEI was established as a non-governmental organisation to support integration and development within the community. It has since organised a range of activities to maintain cultural identity, foster community cohesion, and strengthen ties with the homeland, while also contributing to the development of the host society.
Vietnam’s participation at the meeting underscores the country’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and proactive international integration in a broad, deep, and effective manner. It also conveys Vietnam’s ambition and determination to enter a new era - the era of the nation’s rise.
The amended law will take effect on July 1, 2025, except for provisions on civil servant evaluation in Section 3, Chapter IV, which will be implemented from January 1, 2026.

A key amendment was made to Clause 2, Article 16, which now stipulates that a child born to one parent who is a Vietnamese citizen and the other a foreign national shall be granted Vietnamese nationality, if both parents agree to choose Vietnamese nationality for the child during birth registration with competent Vietnamese authorities
PM Chinh's participation demonstrates Vietnam's strong appreciation and support for China. This, in turn, contributes to further promoting the positive development of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, aiming to build a Vietnam-China community with a shared future, which carries strategic significance.
