Friendship exchange in Hai Duong celebrates Cuba’s Moncada Barracks attack
A friendship exchange was held in Hai Duong city in the northern province of the same name to celebrate the 71th anniversary of the Attack on Moncada Barracks (July 26, 1953 - 2024).

Hai Duong (VNA) – A friendship exchange was held in Hai Duong city in the northern province of the same name 𒈔to celebrate the 71th anniversary of the Attack on Moncada Barracks (July 26, 1953 - 2024).
The event was organised by the the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Hai Duong provincial People's Committee.
At the event, participants reviewed the attack and its historical significance. The attack by young Cuban patriots led by Fidel Castro, the great leader of Cuba, opened up a new stage of development in the Cuban revolution. It brought the just struggle of the Cuban people to victory on January 1, 1959, marking a milestone in the country’s history.
Speaking at the celebration, VUFO Vice President Nguyen Ngoc Hung and Vice Chairman of the Hai Duong provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung emphasised that the attack was a brilliant milestone in the heroic patriotic struggle of Cuba.
They also congratulated Cuba on the important achievements that the Cuban Party, State and people have made and shared the difficulties that Cuba is facing.
Vice Chairman of the Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung said that the people of Vietnam in general and Hai Duong in particular always remember the support and sentiment of the Cuban people during Vietnam’s past struggle for national liberation as well as its current cause of national construction and defence.
He noted that since the province’s Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association was established in 2014 with 130 members, it has actively contributed to consolidating and developing the loyal and special friendship between the two countries.
Joy Puentes Saldise, Deputy Ambassador, Charge d'affaires a.i of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam, affirmed the special friendship between the two countries, adding that the Cuban people are grateful for Vietnam's invaluable support.
Cuba will always remember, preserve and nurture the friendship and cooperative relationship that was founded by Cuban leader Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh.
Congratulating Hai Duong on its achievements, the Cuban diplomat emphasised that Hai Duong and Cuban localities have great potential for cooperation in many fields. The Cuban Embassy in Vietnam is ready to cooperate with Hai Duong province to implement and promote this cooperation.
Previously, at a meeting with Puentes Saldise, Vice Chairman of the Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung said that the province wishes to cooperate with Cuba in education, healthcare and high-tech agriculture.
He hoped that Cuba will support Vietnamese enterprises which are investing in Cuba, and Hai Duong enterprises eye to invest in Cuba.
For his part, Puentes Saldise expressed his hope that the close relationship between Vietnam and Cuba in general and between Cuba and Hai Duong in particular will continue to be strengthened.
Cuba is willing to share its experience with Hai Duong in investment and development in the fields of healthcare and agriculture. Every year, Cuba will offer scholarships to students from Hai Duong.
He expected that in the coming time, Hai Duong will send a delegation to Cuba to meet investors and explore cooperation opportunities./.
The ASEAN Committee in Cuba (ACC), grouping the embassies of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia, held an ASEAN flag raising ceremony in Havana on August 20 to mark the 57th founding anniversary of the bloc.
Vietnamese enterprises currently operate six active projects in Cuba, significantly supporting the Latin American country in self-supplying essential goods to its citizens, said Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi.

The amended law will take effect on July 1, 2025, except for provisions on civil servant evaluation in Section 3, Chapter IV, which will be implemented from January 1, 2026.
