Flash flood sweeps away four-member family in Thanh Hoa
A flash flood in the north central province of Thanh Hoa on July 20, triggered by the inter-tropical convergence zone, swept away three stilt houses, killing two and leaving two others in a family in Lang Chanh district missing.

The district People’s Committee reported that the flood, which tookplace at 1 am on the day in Hac village, Tri Nang commune, also injured threeother people. They are given treatment at Lang Chanh district’s generalhospital.
Search and rescue work is underway.
On July 19 night, tens of households in Trai village, Lang Chanh town wereevacuated due to torrential rain. Downpours also caused landslides at severalspots on provincial roads 530 and 530B, blocking traffic there.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on July 20 warned urgentfloods on Thao, Hoang Long, Da and Luc Nam Rivers, and risks of floods andlandslides in northern and north central localities of Son La, Lai Chau, DienBien, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Lang Son and QuangNinh.
Inundation will possibly take place in low-lying areas of Yen Bai, Phu Tho, HoaBinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.
The water level of Thuong River in Bac Giang province peaked 4.39 metres at7:00 am on the day. Other rivers such as Thao River in Yen Bai provincerecorded the water level of 32.7 metres, 0.7 metre higher than the alert level3. The water levels are slowly decreasing, the centre said.
