Da Nang (VNA) – The Da Nang Festival – Welcome New Year 2021 kickedoff at Asia Park in the central city of Da Nang on December 30 evening.
The festival aims to revitalise tourism amid the new normalso as to ensure the twin targets of pandemic control and socio-economicdevelopment.
In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman of the municipalPeople’s Committee Ho Ky Minh said that the beautiful beach city has gradually affirmeditself as a safe, attractive and friendly destination on the world tourism map.
The festival is part of a series of travel stimulusactivities to recover the city’s tourism in the context of the pandemic putunder control.
The festival, which is taking place from December 29 toJanuary 2, 2021, features a wide range of activities like a cyclo parade, freenight tours on the Han River, street music shows, and singing and dancingperformances with traditional musical instruments.
A noodle festival with typical noodle dishes of Vietnam andother countries, along with booths introducing Da Nang’s delicacies, is alsoheld within the framework of the festival.
To ensure disease prevention safety, the organising boardallocates staff to measure body temperature, and provide hand sanitisers andface masks for visitors./.
Da Nang’s tourism is recovering from the effects of COVID-19, with the number of tourists visiting the city expected to increase sharply during the Christmas and New year holidays.
Da Nang’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) has been estimated to be down 9.77 percent this year to about 100 trillion VND compared to 2019 due to COVID-19, a press conference held on December 29 to announce the central city’s socio-economic figures for 2020 heard.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
