Ceremony marks 99th birthday of Hoa Hao Buddhism’s founder
The Central Executive Board of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha held a ceremony in southern An Giang province on December 31 to mark the 99th birth anniversary of the Hoa Hao Buddhism’s founder – Huynh Phu So.

An Giang (VNA) – The Central Executive Board ofthe Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha held a ceremony in southern An Giang province onDecember 31 to mark the 99th birth anniversary of the Hoa Hao Buddhism’sfounder – Huynh Phu So.
At the event held at An Hoa Tu Pagoda in Phu Mytown of Phu Tan district, deputy head of the Government’s Committee forReligious Affairs Tran Tan Hung congratulated Hoa Hao followers on thefounder’s birthday (the 25th day of the 11th lunar month, 1920).
Since the Hoa Hao Buddhism came into being 79years ago, followers have always adhered to its guidelines, upheld thetraditional patriotism and solidarity, and contributed to the nation.
Hung added their social and charitableactivities have helped affirm the Hoa Hao sect’s national unity spirit, whichis also part of the teaching of its founder Huynh Phu So.
Nguyen Tiec Hung, President of the VietnamFatherland Front Committee in An Giang, appreciated Hoa Hao Buddhists’patriotism, solidarity and support of national development.
He noted that in 2018, the sect’s dignitariesand followers have involved in many charity activities, including buildingbridges and roads in rural areas, reducing poverty, and raising educationpromotion funds. Hoa Hao followers in the province have donated over 100billion VND (4.3 million USD) to charity work, thereby helping with localdevelopment.
There are more than 2 million Hoa Hao Buddhistfollowers across Vietnam at present, with An Giang home to the biggest numberof the followers. -VNA

Nearly 2 million dignitaries and followers of Hoa Hao Buddhism from 17 provinces and cities attended a ceremony at An Hoa temple, Phu My town, Phu Tan district of southern An Giang province on July 1 to celebrate the sect’s 79th founding anniversary (the 18th day of the fifth lunar month).

Through personal relationships or professional dealings, Chairman of Phuc Son Group Nguyen Van Hau gave a total of over 130 billion VND to local leaders in Vinh Phuc and Quang Ngai provinces. These officials used their positions to execute tasks as requested by Hau, enabling him and Phuc Son Group, as well as Thang Long company, to carry out projects, participate in tenders, and win contracts.
