Cambodia: KNUP President prosecuted for drug production
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on August 6 decided to charge President of the Khmer National United Party Nhiek Bunchhay of being an accomplice to drug production.

Hanoi (VNA) – ThePhnom Penh Municipal Court on August 6 decided to charge President of the KhmerNational United Party and former Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Nhiek Bunchhayof being an accomplice to drug production and importing substances to producedrugs.
Earlier on August 3, he wasarrested by police in compliance with the court’s order.
In 2007, the police raided amajor drug farm in Kampong Speu province owned by Chea Chung, advisor ofBunchhay, and found materials for drug production.
According to witnesses,Bunchhay regularly visited the farm together with Chea Chung.
Currently, Chea Chung, twoChinese and one Thai nationals are on jail on charge of drug production.
On June 4, King NorodomSihamoni signed a decision to strip Bunchhay off his position as the governmentadvisor.
If Bunchhay is convicted, hisKNUP will be dispersed according to the newly-approved revised law on politicalparties.-VNA
