Mexico City (VNA) – The upcoming APEC Summit 2017, which isslated for the central city of Da Nang in November with the participation ofMexican President Enrique Mena Nieto, is expected to help strengthen all-roundcooperation between Vietnam and Mexico, stated Ambassador of Vietnam to MexicoLe Linh Lan.
Addressing a conference themed “APEC Vietnam 2017: Meet Mexico” held in MexicoCity recently, the ambassador said that APEC 2017 is a good chance for leadersof member economies, including those from Vietnam and Mexico, to discussbilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms for the growth of eachcountry and the whole region.
The diplomat highlighted the sound friendship and cooperation betweenVietnam and Mexico since the two countries set up their diplomatic ties onSeptember 19, 1975, as well as the collaboration potential between the twosides, especially in manufacturing, auto industry, agriculture and tourism.
Mexico is currently the third largest trade partner of Vietnam in the LatinAmerican region, with two-way trade rising about 30 percent per year andhitting 5 billion USD in 2016, noted Lan.
Meanwhile, Mexican Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Juan Carlos Bakerlauded Vietnam’s efforts in preparations for APEC 2017.
He underlined similarities between the two countries in culture,history, and geography, adding that the two economies are both open ones andcan supplement each other. This is a good condition for the two sides to taptheir trade cooperation potential.
At the conference, many Mexican officials also underscored thesignificance of APEC 2017 to the promotion of trade facilitation and globalintegration amidst the changing world with signs of protectionism.
Participants also expressed belief at the growth of the Vietnam-Mexicopartnership in all fields, especially economy, trade and investment.-VNA
