The French Development Agency (AFD) has provided nearly 350 million EUR(473 million USD) for the Vietnamese Government to carry out 30 projectsin water drainage and environmental sanitation since 1997.
Thirteen of such projects worth 270 million EUR have contributedgreatly to the distribution and control of the water resources in thedeltas of Mekong , Dong Nai, and Hong (Red) rivers.
These were announced at a press conference in Hanoi on November 6by the AFD introducing the film festival as part of the Vietnam-FranceYear (2013-2014) and the United Nations International Year of WaterCooperation.
The festival, which highlights storiesabout water, will take place in the capital from November 12-13, withthe aim to clarify challenges facing water management in the context ofthe increasing demand for water access.
The Frenchagency granted Vietnam a 20-million-EUR loan and a 0.8-million-EUR aidfor a project on enhancing the water management capacity and upgradingthe Bac Hung Hai irrigation system in the northern provinces of HungYen and Hai Duong and Hai Phong city.
A research on the climate change had been conducted under the project.
The country also received a loan worth 40 million EUR and anon-refundable aid of 1 million EUR for a rural development project inthe central region that supports the infrastructure development in 13central provinces via building a 1,000-km road and irrigationfacilities.
