Thailand has launched an initiative to get the 1 million children missing from school back into education in an effort to eradicate poverty and lift itself out of the middle-income trap.

The HansaeYes24 Foundation will give 9,600 copies of children’s books to primary schools in central Da Nang city under its annual book donation programme to celebrate Vietnam Book Day (April 21).

Up to 99.2 percent of Hanoians aged above 15 are literate, the highest level among the country’s 63 provinces and cities, according to a report of the municipal Party Committee on the city’s education and training.

The obesity rate among Vietnamese school-aged children has increased, particularly in big cities like Hanoi, HCM City, Da Nang and Hai Phong.
