- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for drastic actions to ensuretraffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday and springfestivals, as heavy traffic is forecast.
In a dispatch sent to relevant ministries, agencies, and localities on January29, the leader highlighted the communications work to promote the observance oftraffic rules.
- Despite a challenging global economiclandscape, Vietnam continues to stand resilient as one of the top 10 recipientsof overseas remittances worldwide, with an estimated 14 billion USD last year,according to the World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief andthe Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD).
Breaking records on its own, Ho Chi Minh City boasted a remarkable annual surgeof 43.3% in remittances, reaching an impressive 9.46 billion USD – a figurethat also marked a 10-year high.
- The garment and textile sector has set a target of 44 billion USD in exportturnover this year, up 10% year-on-year.
According to the Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS), garment andtextile exports last year reached 39.5 billion USD, down 10% year-on-year.
- Vietnam has recorded tangible changes in agro-forestry-fishery exports thanksto preferential tariffs in trade with member countries of the Comprehensive andProgressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) after five yearsthe trade pact took effect.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers(VASEP), the country’s export of agro-forestry-aquatic products to CPTPP membernations has consistently increased in recent years, hitting 2.9 billion in 2022from 2.2 billion in 2019.
- A community of young female entrepreneurs equipped with digital skills hasbegun to take shape following the freshly ended Empower Her Tech programme bythe United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Against the backdrop, the training programme, co-organised by the UNDP andAlobase Technology and Services JSC, targeted boosting digital skills forfemale entrepreneurs and women aged 18-35 with non-tech startup ideas. Sixtylearners, selected from 300 candidates registered, underwent 10 lessons, whichtaught them Wix – a no-code website building tool, generative artificialintelligence (AI) technology, and Canva – a design tool fornon-professionals, among others.
- In a stride towards aviation excellence, the Civil Aviation Authority ofVietnam (CAAV) has greenlit the official launch of the Airport CollaborativeDecision Making (A-CDM) model at Tan Son Nhat international airport in Ho ChiMinh City, effective from February 1, as declared by the airport on January 30.
This announcement marks the culmination of an extensive three-year testing andcollaborative efforts by Tan Son Nhat Airport and key stakeholders, positioningTan Son Nhat as an A-CDM airport on the airport map both regionally andglobally.
